Documentary
As Rotary District 5330 continues to help the village of Oduworo become a self-sustaining community, Oduworo the Movie, LLC has been formed, and seeks to document the tangible means through which world poverty can be eradicated, one village at a time. They hope to elevate the discourse on our accountability to fight poverty by delivering a human interest story documented in Oduworo that will help audiences connect to the villagers and better understand who they are, and why we should care about them.
In February 2009, the research team of producers Shannon Riggs and Anthony Baldino, accompanied by writer/director Katherine O’Brien, traveled to Uganda to film the Rotary District 5330 trip to monitor the progress of the project to date and work in the village. The visit enabled the filmmakers to interact with the villagers, interview them, get to know them, and find their stories. With fifty-five hours of footage shot on this trip, they will produce a recruitment video that District 5330 can use to publicize this International Project and recruit more volunteers and funds to finance it.
A second follow-up trip is planned in June 2009 to develop the feature into the documentary that they intend to sell to a cable network and/or major studio. Part of the proceeds from the film will go to the village to help fund additional sustainability initiatives.
The producers of this documentary are also pleased to have arranged the visit in June of Vanessa Contopulos, a Rotary Peace and Conflict Resolution Scholar, and one of the "Invisible Children" participants.
